All Government Office's are used for vehicle cherished transfers for registrations issued by (called CT's within the office's), they also have other use's such as taxing vehicles, vehicle inspections, offences and many other duties.

Government auctions now seem to sell registrations if they have any possibility of raising more than the sale of marks set prices. Over the years we have seen some amazing registrations sold via auctions, K1 NGS, P1 LOT, 1 A, S1 NGH, 1 J, 1 P the list is endless. 

Government Charges: To transfer registrations from one vehicle to another the basic charge is currently £80, to transfer the cherished number to a holding certificate the current charge is £105 (a breakdown of £25 to retain for twelve months and £80 to transfer to the next vehicle).

Vehicle To Vehicle Transfers: To transfer any number plate from one vehicle to another, you will need both sets of documents including your V5 logbook, a valid MoT certificate  (if the vehicle requires one), a copy of the current tax disc, £80 transfer fee payable to the department of transport and a completed V317 transfer form. Once the transfer documents have been submitted to the Government Office they are checked with - Driver & Vehicle Licensing Office Swansea for certain marks, one being the length of time the donor vehicle has held current road tax. If the tax has been broken within the last 24 months, the donor vehicle will need to be inspected by the Government Office, they normally write to the registered keeper of the donor vehicle requesting the keeper to deliver the donor vehicle to the Government Office at a certain time and date for inspection.

Inspection of Vehicle: The inspection of the vehicle is normally no more than a quick check to verify that all serial numbers on the vehicle match to those held on the - Driver & Vehicle Licensing Office computer at Swansea. Once the Government Office are happy with the inspection and all other aspects of the transfer, they will forward two new tax discs the to each the donor keeper and the recipient keeper of the vehicles. At this time you may fit your new number plates but, the transfer is not yet complete by - Driver & Vehicle Licensing Office Swansea and may still be rejected or cancelled if in the unlikely event a discrepancy occurs.

Transfer completion: Once the Government Office has finished dealing with the first stage of the transfer, all documentation is then forwarded to - Driver & Vehicle Licensing Office Swansea for completion. They will check all documentation and issue the respective V5's for each vehicle, this normally takes around three or four weeks but can take longer in unusual circumstances. As soon as both documents have been received by the relevant parties involved, then the transfer is deemed complete.
